Buying a fume extractor is really buying a supplier relationship. The machine will need spare parts in two years, a replacement motor in five, and a real human on email when something stops working. Choose the wrong manufacturer and the "saving" disappears into downtime. Here's how to tell a genuine factory from a trading company — and the 8 checks that matter.

Factory vs. Trading Company: The First Filter

Many "manufacturers" in this market are trading companies that buy unbranded units and resell them. That's not automatically bad — but it means thinner technical support, slower spares, and no control over quality. A real manufacturer can show you:

Ask for these four things up front. A trading company will stall or send someone else's paperwork; a factory sends it the same day.

The 8 Checks Before You Order

  1. CE certification. Look for the specific directives — EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, EMC 2014/30/EU, Low Voltage 2014/35/EU — not just a "CE" sticker. Without this, you can't legally sell into Europe.
  2. Third-party testing. Independent test reports beat self-certification. Ask who tested it.
  3. Years in business. A company that's survived since 2016 has a track record; one that appeared last year on Alibaba has not.
  4. Export experience. Selling into 150+ countries means they've already solved voltage, plug, logistics, and documentation for your market.
  5. OEM / ODM capability. Can they put your logo on the machine, panel, packaging, and manual? That's the difference between a supplier and a partner.
  6. After-sales & warranty. A 12-month warranty is the baseline; ask how spares are dispatched and how fast support responds.
  7. Lead time. Confirm the sample and bulk lead time in writing — and what happens if it slips.
  8. Voltage & plug flexibility. 110V/220V/230V/380V with US, EU, UK, and AU plug types means the machine actually works where you are.

China vs. Western Suppliers: What You're Really Choosing

Western brands (BOFA, Purex, ULT) lead on brand recognition and local support — at a premium. Chinese manufacturers offer equivalent filtration technology at a materially lower price, with the gap being trust and paperwork rather than engineering. The smart move is to hold Chinese suppliers to the same standard you'd apply to a Western one: demand CE test reports, a factory tour, a brand-name motor, and written lead times. A Chinese manufacturer that passes all eight checks gives you Western-grade technology at China-manufacturing pricing.
