How a custom three-inlet build centralized fume extraction for a multi-machine shop
A workshop owner in the Netherlands recently reached out with a familiar problem — but with a specific twist. The shop runs multiple laser machines, and instead of buying one extractor per machine, the owner wanted a single unit that could serve them all. The answer was a Reborix 12-5S with a custom modification: three 150 mm inlets.
Multi-machine laser shops face a real cost and space problem. Running a separate fume extractor for every laser means:
The customer wanted to collapse all of that into one properly-sized central unit — but only if the airflow could be split cleanly across the machines without starving any single station.
The 12-5S is already the multi-machine workhorse of the 12 Series — with up to 3,000 m³/h of adjustable airflow it serves two 1390 CO₂ lasers or a single 1325. For this customer's layout, the standard two-inlet configuration wasn't the right match: the suction needed to split across three separate stations.
So we built it with three 150 mm inlets instead. Each inlet runs its own duct to a laser, so every machine gets its own dedicated capture point while a single ESP core and fan do all the heavy lifting. When a station isn't running, that inlet is simply capped — the smart panel adjusts airflow to keep capture velocity strong at the active machines.
The result is a clean, centralized setup: one extractor, one filter core to wash, one point of maintenance — instead of three of everything.
The customer's shop now runs multiple laser machines off a single 12-5S, with three dedicated 150 mm inlets and one washable filter core to maintain. Fewer units, less noise, lower running cost, and clean air at every station. That's exactly what the 12-5S was built for.
